COMPETITION RULES

TIME LIMITS:  Each team routine will be limited to a 6:00 maximum. Solos may not exceed 3:00.

CATEGORIES:  There will be no categories or divisions in The Battle of the Best - every routine is competing for the Best of Show.  But every routine will receive an adjudicated award as well as expert voice feedback from each of our judges.  Top 20 will be announced for each Battle, Top 10 will be awarded cash prizes and the Battle Winner will receive the grand prize.

JUDGING:  The Battle of the Best promises the most expert and fair judging possible. There will be five judges who will judge every routine. They will provide audio feedback for every routine which will be emailed immediately following the performance. For each routine, we will drop the high and low score and average the middle three.  Each routine will be judged upon their performance in the following areas and scored out of 10 points in each category:

  • DESIGN: the design of the routine - choreography, costuming, props etc.
  • EXECUTION: the dance itself and how well it is executed
  • PERFORMANCE: the dancers - their passion, emotion and the power of the routine

Scores will determine the TOP 10, who will be invited to compete again at the end of the competition in the Final Battle. During the Final Battle, all previous scores will be thrown out and judges will choose the BEST OF SHOW from this final performance. LIVE COMMENTARY will take place after each of the 10 routines, on stage, by our professional judges. (Each participating studio will be guaranteed at least one spot in the final battle)
